🌸 May Update — A Month of Transition, Recovery, and First Steps Forward

May has been a month of transition for our family — moving from active treatment into recovery, rehabilitation, and the beginning of a very different kind of learning curve.

💛 From Treatment to Recovery

This month marked an important shift as Chloë completed chemotherapy and began the next stage of her journey: recovery, rehabilitation, and adapting to life after treatment.

While finishing treatment is something we have been working toward for a long time, it also comes with its own emotional and physical adjustments. There is relief, but also uncertainty as we learn what recovery will look like day by day.

🦿 Entering the Prosthetic Phase

We are now beginning the prosthetic phase, which includes fittings, assessments, and learning how to move forward with a new type of mobility and independence.

This stage represents both progress and patience — progress in rebuilding strength and function, and patience in allowing time for adjustment, trial, and adaptation.

🏫 School, Routine, and Reintegration

We are also beginning conversations around school reintegration and how to support a gradual return to routine in a way that is accessible, manageable, and supportive of recovery.

This includes coordination between healthcare providers, occupational therapy, and school staff to ensure that Chloë can re-engage at a pace that works for her.

🤝 Support Systems That Carry Us

We continue to be deeply grateful for the care teams, therapists, educators, and organizations that have supported us through every stage so far.

From CHEO and the AYA Cancer Care team at The Ottawa Hospital, to community programs like Campfire Circle and the CHAMP program through The War Amps, these supports have made an immeasurable difference.

🌱 Advocacy and Awareness

This blog continues to evolve into something bigger than our personal story. It is also about advocacy — raising awareness about childhood cancer, amputation, and the long road that follows treatment.

We hope to highlight not only the challenges, but also the systems, charities, and communities that help families navigate them.

💛 Looking Ahead

As we move into June, our focus is on recovery, rehabilitation, and continuing to build stability after a very intense year.

Thank you to everyone who has followed along, supported, or quietly kept our family in your thoughts.

We are deeply grateful.
