Medical Update: Thursday marked Chloë’s second “long” chemo—an inpatient session that requires her to stay in hospital for 3–5 days until the chemo clears her system. This followed last week’s first long session, which ran Thursday to Sunday. At least we had a few nights at home before returning. This is Week 5 of Cycle 1 of Chloë’s treatment plan. She must complete two 5-week cycles before we pause to assess progress and determine next steps. Fingers crossed we’ll be able to move forward with surgery to remove the tumor.
Emotional Check-In: We were happy to all be home—the four of us together—on Labour Day. September 2nd brought mixed emotions: the start of school, but not in the way we’d hoped. Chloë is in active chemo, which means she’s unable to attend Grade 11 in person this year. Thanks to our Interlink nurse and the incredible support from her guidance counsellor and vice-principal, we identified two e-learning courses she’ll take this semester in lieu of the four in-person classes she would normally have. Her teachers have been updated and, as with everyone we’ve met along the way, have been incredibly kind, understanding, and supportive.
Education Update: Chloë is now enrolled in two e-learning courses for Semester 1. Her school team has been consistently thoughtful and flexible, helping us navigate this new format with care.
Moments of Light: Chloë’s room at CHEO was quiet and private, which helped her rest. She’s been exploring wig options and hats that feel fun and expressive—small ways to reclaim control. Charlotte started Grade 3 this week, and while the transition was emotional, she’s settling in with support from her teachers and friends. We’re grateful for the small wins and the steady presence of people who care.
Reflections: This week reminded us that support systems matter. From hospital staff to school teams to family members near and far, we’re surrounded by people who care—and that makes all the difference.
💛 Much love,
Chloë’s Mom
